Daniel’s Vineyard Files Federal Lawsuit to Protect Property and Business Rights

McCORDSVILLE, Ind. – November 10, 2025 – Daniel’s Vineyard has filed a federal lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Indiana to protect its constitutional and property rights. The suit challenges recent McCordsville Town Council ordinances and enforcement actions that the Vineyard believes unfairly limit its operations as a small, family-owned business. The Vineyard has retained the law firm Miller, Canfield, Paddock and Stone which has experience representing wineries around the country in similar cases.

For years, Daniel’s Vineyard has collaborated with members of the Town Council while creating local jobs, tourism, and a gathering place for the community.

“We’ve always believed in collaboration and fairness,” said a spokesperson for Daniel’s Vineyard. “Our goal is simply to ensure that small businesses are treated consistently and that the rules are applied equally to everyone.”

The Vineyard said the lawsuit is a necessary step to protect its rights and clarify local regulations.

Despite repeated efforts to cooperate, Daniel’s Vineyard has faced years of strained communication and restrictive dealings with the Town Council, including times when direct dialogue was prohibited and all communication was funneled through legal counsel. This approach, combined with a persistent focus on noise over growth, has stifled innovation and left our team feeling personally targeted rather than valued as local contributors.

Daniel’s Vineyard remains open and fully operational, continuing to welcome guests to its winery, restaurant, and private events.
